During a private visit in 1997 Carsten and Silke got the vision to build a home for AIDS orphans. Here the children love, care and safety and have the opportunity to develop their individual skills. As Christians it is our main concern to plant into their hearts values like solidarity, respect for others and to God, honesty etc- and to live as godly examples.

Many of our children have been traumatized by their early experiences – death of the parents, being abandoned, abuse by relatives… so it is very important to give them love and a new home. Here they can learn to find new trust in life and in God.

According to the tribal thinking here in Kenya people do care about their own clan, but they don´t respect other tribes and can even steal from them without a guilty conscience. Love and care for others only refers to their own tribe. We respect the different cultures here, but still want to put more healthy Christian values into our orphans. And of course we fight against things like female mutilation, child labour, incest and corruption.

Still we try to bring our children up in a way which equips them to live in their native culture. We keep the contact with the extended family of the childlen, that they stay in touch with their roots and will have a place, where they can return after leaving Seed of Hope..

Besides planting good values it is our goal to give each child a good education that they have the chance to find a profession and have a good start for their lives.
